. "When Night Becomes Day: The Secret of Norway’s Midnight Sun"

When Myrah came back from school she was holding a book which she just got issued from her school library. The topic in the book was not letting her rest. It was about Norway where sun never sets. She came to me full of questions.


 Myrah: Mom, why does Norway have the Midnight Sun? It sounds so magical!


Mom: It is magical, Myrah! The Midnight Sun happens because of the way Earth is tilted.


Myrah: Tilted? What does that mean?


Mom: You see, the Earth isn’t straight up and down. It’s tilted at an angle of about 23.5 degrees. This tilt changes how sunlight reaches different parts of the
world during the year.



Myrah: Oh, so what happens in Norway during summer?


Mom: During summer, the North Pole tilts toward the sun. This means places close to the Arctic Circle, like northern Norway, get sunlight all day and night. Even at midnight, the sun stays up in the sky. That’s why it’s called the "Midnight Sun."


Myrah: Wow! Does that happen everywhere?


Mom: Not everywhere. It only happens near the poles—above the Arctic Circle in the north or below the Antarctic Circle in the south. Most places on Earth don’t experience this because they’re too far away from the poles.


Myrah: What about winter? Does the sun stay up then too?



Mom: No, it’s the opposite in winter. The North Pole tilts away from the sun, so places like northern Norway have long nights, sometimes for weeks. That’s called the "Polar Night."


Myrah: That’s so interesting! Where can people see the Midnight Sun in Norway?


Mom: Places like Tromsø, the Lofoten Islands, and Nordkapp are perfect for experiencing the Midnight Sun. Tourists from all over the world visit to see this natural wonder.


Myrah: It’s amazing how the Earth’s tilt can create something so magical!


Mom: It really is, Myrah. The Midnight Sun is one of those wonders that reminds us how incredible our planet is!
