"No Mountains on Earth? What Would Happen? A Simple Conversation for Kids"
When Myrah's summer holidays began, we visited her grandpa, who lived far away from the hustle and bustle of the city. As always loaded with curiosity and eagerness Myrah even didn't left her grandpa from this.
Myrah: Grandpa, do you think mountains ever get tired of just standing there?
Grandpa: (chuckling) Tired? That’s an interesting thought! But no, Myrah, mountains don’t get tired. They’re like Earth’s guardians, silently watching over us.
Myrah: Guardians? That sounds so cool! But what if… what if there were no mountains at all? Would the Earth still be the same?
Grandpa: Oh, Myrah, that’s a big question! If there were no mountains, our world would be very, very different.
Myrah: Really? How different, Grandpa? Tell me everything!
Grandpa: Mountains help control the weather. They stop strong winds, make clouds rise, and bring rain. Without mountains, some places would get too much rain, causing floods, and others would turn into deserts!
Myrah: Whoa! So, mountains help share the rain?
Grandpa: Exactly! They also feed rivers. The water from melting snow and rain on mountains forms rivers like the Ganges, Nile, and Amazon. Without mountains, many rivers wouldn’t exist, and millions of people would struggle for fresh water.
Myrah: Oh no! That means farmers wouldn’t have enough water to grow food?
Grandpa: That’s right. And it wouldn’t just affect people—animals and plants would suffer too. Many creatures, like snow leopards and mountain goats, live only in the mountains. Without mountains, they might disappear forever.
Myrah: That’s so sad! But Grandpa, wouldn’t it at least be safer? No mountains means no landslides, right?
Grandpa: Well, it’s the opposite, actually! Mountains help keep the land stable. Without them, the Earth’s surface might shake more, causing stronger earthquakes. And without mountain slopes holding the soil, landslides could happen even more often.
Myrah: So, mountains are like Earth’s safety shields?
Grandpa: Yes! They protect us, give us fresh water, and even provide important minerals. Plus, think about all the fun activities we’d lose—no skiing, no hiking, no mountaineering!
Myrah: I never thought about it that way! Mountains are more than just big rocks; they help balance the whole planet!
Grandpa: Absolutely, Myrah! Nature is full of wonders, and mountains are one of the most important ones.
Myrah: I’ll never look at a mountain the same way again! Thanks, Grandpa!
